5 DIY Natural Cleaning Products

Spring is finally near, which means it’s time for a Spring clean. Although instead of getting the bleach out, why not opt for a more natural approach this year instead? Lots of cleaning products can be extremely toxic to your health, luckily, there are alternative ways to keep your home fresh and clean. Read on to find out how to make your own DIY cleaning products using natural ingredients that are probably already in your cupboards.

1. General Purpose Cleaner

This cleaner is perfect to use on kitchen surfaces, bathroom sinks, and even your mirrors and windows.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup vinegar

1/4 cup bicarbonate of soda

2 litres water

Method:

Mix together all of the ingredients in a bucket of water.

Decant into a spray bottle.

Store and keep.

2. Glass Cleaner

All you need for a really efficient glass cleaner is trusty old vinegar, some water and an essential oil if you want a nice scent. A lemon essential oil works great for a zesty fresh smell.

Ingredients:

2-3 tbsp vingar

2 cups water

10-15 drops essential oil

Method:

Combine ingredients and pour into a spray bottle (preferably glass).

Use as needed to clean window.

3. Toilet Cleaner

This toilet cleaner requires only one ingredient, yet works extremely well. If you find the smell of vinegar too overpowering, then feel free to scent with an essential oil of your choice.

Ingredients:

White Vinegar

Method:

Use undiluted white vinegar, pour around the top of the toilet bowl and scrub until clean.

4. Furniture Polish

The oil in this polish gives wood furniture a nice shine, whilst the lemon cleans and freshens.

Ingredients:

¼ cup lemon juice

½ cup olive oil

Method:

Use a soft cloth to distribute the mixture over furniture.

Wipe the surface until you have achieved desired results.

5. Oven Cleaner

Who knew you could achieve a nice shiny oven without harsh chemicals? It’s also a much cheaper alternative to a traditional oven cleaner.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup of bicarbonate of soda

1 tsp of salt

Water

Method:

Combine 1/4 cup bicarbonate of soda, 1 tsp of salt and some water.

Keep adding water bit by bit until you create a paste. 

Cover your oven in the mixture and let it sit overnight.

Scrub and wipe clean the next day with a damp cloth, and you should have a nice shiny oven!
