How To Entertain In The Winter

Entertaining in the winter can be hard. It’s too cold for beer gardens and BBQ’s which means your options are limited when getting together with your friends. If you’re a bit unsure on what to do when it comes to entertaining your guests throughout the winter months we’ve got some Truly top tips, so you can be the hostess with mostest!

Murder Mystery Themed Dinner Party

If you’re bored of the usual dinner and drinks, pull out all the stops and organise a murder mystery night to remember. Send out the invites in advance and assign your guests characters so they can dress the part. Decorate a room, and select some ambient music, as well as a simple menu that is set to go as soon as your guests arrive.

It might be a good idea to find a template of the game online and to print off the instructions to give your guests. As they arrive they should be given any information needed for the game, and potentially other clues. Keep a copy of the instructions on hand during the night to help guide you through the mystery. You’re set to have such a memorable night that your friends will be asking to come back again for take two next year!

Pot Luck

For those of you who don’t know, the aim of the game of a pot luck is to each bring a dish to your hosts house. This is a lovely way to get into the festive spirit and bring your nearest and dearest together. You can add a twist to the pot luck and theme it, such as Mexican cuisine only or a big Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

It might be an idea to allocate who is bringing what dish, so you don’t end up with a plethora of all savoury or sweet dishes. Actually, on second thoughts a table adorned with desserts doesn’t sound bad at all…

Movie Night

Do you miss the days of feeling like a teenager and having sleepovers with friends? Or, are you envious of your kids’ sleepovers with their pals? Well, a midnight feast in your PJ’s might be off the cards (or not), but you’re never too old for movie night with friends.

And since ‘tis the season to be jolly, why not theme the night ‘Christmas Classics’? Stock up on the popcorn and you’ve got yourself a great night in watching some timeless classics with the people you love. Going out is overrated anyway!

Pizza, Prosecco & Pyjama Party

Not only does the title have a nice ring to it, but it’s also guaranteed great fun and a night full of giggles. Invite your closest pals around, with a strict dress code of pyjamas only. Stock up on a few bottles of Prosecco and order the pizzas in. This is the night where you can catch up on the gossip – laugh, cry, be silly, forget about the daily stresses of life, and of course, indulge in some pizza (without the guilt please!)

This evening requires little effort and is perfect if you have a busy schedule yet want to have a fab night in to remember. The only work you’ll have to do is googling the pizza parlour’s phone number. I’ll certainly be scheduling this night into my calendar pronto!

Wine Tasting

If you desire to entertain your guests in a more civilised and classy fashion, then a wine tasting evening will certainly meet that criteria. Enjoy one of life’s luxuries, and tantalise your taste buds delighting in fine wine and great company.

Depending on your budget, you can ask each guest to bring a bottle of their favourite wine. Alternatively, if you’d like to pull out the stops you can even hire a local wine company to host the evening for a fee; where a wine expert can talk to you and your guests in more depth about how to train your palette, the wine’s region and its flavours. As the host, ensure you have appropriate glassware to serve the wine in. If not, you can browse our Truly gorgeous glassware here.

P.s don’t forget to stock up on cheese to compliment the wine. It is Christmas after all!
