Got your face mask ready? Now face masks are becoming mandatory in supermarkets and other places, it’s even harder to get your hands on them, especially one’s you like. So, we’ve put together a short step-by-step guide on how you can make your own.
WHAT IS THE BEST FABRIC TO USE?
DIY masks are said to help protect accidentally passing on the virus if you have it and vice versa. Cotton material is strongly recommended for facemasks as they capture bacteria but still remain very breathable. So, if you have any old cotton t-shirts or pillowcases you don’t mind cutting up, then this would be perfect for you to use.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
A bandana, scarf or your choice of cotton fabric.
Scissors (if needed)
2 rubber bands or hair ties
1) First, lay your bandana or choice of material flat, with the front facing downwards.
2) Fold the top and bottom to meet in the middle.
3) Then, using the hair ties or rubber bands, place one over each end and fold over so they are overlapping. You should be able to tuck the ends into each other so they remain flat.
4) Be sure to wear the facemask with the front facing out, with the ends against your face. Thoroughly wash your hands after removing your facemask before touching your face. Remember, you can re-use and wash your facemask as many times as you want.
DO KIDS NEED TO WEAR A FACEMASK?
If you have a child under the age of 11, you don’t have to worry about them wearing a facemask, but if you are looking to make one for your child, then these DIY masks work great! If you need the mask to be a little tighter, place the rubber or hair bands slightly further in during step 4.
