Why you believe we all need a bit more Truly in our lives…
I love the range of products Truly offers, developing everything from clothing, to homeware, to beauty, there’s so much for a graphic designer to get her teeth into! I feel like I’ve come in at the start of something very special, and it’s going to be exciting to watch it grow and know that I’ve contributed to it. Truly products are beautiful and functional, I think everyone needs a bit of that in their lives!

Presuming you are currently in the job of your dreams… what drives you at work?
I guess the real thrill for me will be seeing customers sporting one of my designs or getting positive feedback for something I’ve created. My dad is a graphic designer and an all-around amazing artist so when I was little all I wanted to do was show him my drawing skills or my designs for new princess dresses and learn from him. I studied art throughout school and eventually textile design at University, so my love to draw and create has been with me my whole life! Creating graphics and prints at work and actually getting paid to do what I love is a dream come true… I haven’t quite got round to designing that princess dress… but you never know… Truly Royalty could take off in a huge way!

It’s always a challenge to find a balance as a designer, between fitting the brief to achieve the brand’s desired look and feel, whilst injecting it with a little of your own flair. Once you find that happy medium, I think that’s when a product really comes alive and I love that whole process.

What’s your favourite Truly Product?
I have so many favourites! I can’t wait to get my hands on the cashmere jumpers, I love the grape and lilac colours. I’ve also just bought my first home with my partner and have my eye on a lot of the homeware pieces, the cushions, comforter and candles are at the top of my wishlist (and his too… of course). Oh, and the ceramics! One of my best friends, Emma, had a helping hand and I think she’s done an incredible job, as always. I’ve always had a real love for baby wear too, it’s probably one of my favourite things to design for, it’s just so cute! Truly have some beautiful baby cashmere jumpers and little Fairisle designs. There’s really something for everyone!

Do you have any extra-curricular hobbies/passions?
I enjoy Pilates and Yoga and try to do as much as possible, usually in the comfort of my own home. I’m getting quite into cooking recently too and experimenting with lots of “clean eating” healthy recipes. I’ve almost perfected my tomato soup, just in time for winter! Mostly, and rather predictably, I love sketching with fine liners or painting with gouache and watercolours. You can take the work away from the designer, but you can’t take the designer away from the work… not when it’s a hobby too! I also love photography and I’m trying to take my camera out with me more and more at the moment, especially on those frosty sunny mornings when the light is just amazing. If I’m not busy doing all that you’ll find me on the sofa in front of Netflix, binge-watching as many episodes as possible of whatever series we are currently obsessed with.

What would your last supper be?
Ooooh, definitely a gently baked camembert with a crusty baguette to scoop it all up. Great to make at Christmas! Essentially it involves plonking a whole Camembert in the centre of dough twisted with bacon and baking it. Honestly, it’s to die for. I would obviously need a dessert at my last supper… and it would either have to be a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, which my mum makes every birthday or a banoffee pie, or both.

If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go? What kind of trip would it be?
There are so many beautiful places to go, I couldn’t just pick one! A mix of relaxation and adventure are usually the best kind of trip. I am dying to go to Machu Picchu in Peru. I think it would just be breathtaking. Japan is high on my list, I love Cherry blossoms. Bali and Venice are on the list for next year though.

Let’s talk constellations. What star sign are you? What typical traits do you have?
I’m a Capricorn and I would definitely say I fit the Capricorn brief. I am extremely considered. To say I don’t make impulse decisions would be an understatement. I hum and ha over everything and can never make a choice, probably why I’ve given multiple answers to all these questions! I’ve also just read that Capricorns are notoriously pessimistic but also ambitious. Both definitely ring true. I think the pessimism is what makes me ambitious and want to work hard though so not all bad…
