Staycations: How to embrace your next holiday at home

There’s always a new term entering the travel vocabulary: traveller, globetrotter, tourist, wayfarer, voluntourism and now staycation is all the rage for 2019. Defined as “a holiday spent in one’s home country rather than abroad”; we believe it can be so much more and here’s how to make the most of it:

YOU TIMe

In the words of Ferris Bueller; “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” So why not stop and smell the roses for once? Turn off your phone, watch that film you never got around to seeing, grab a good book to read in the bathtub and make the most of the sound of rare silence. A staycation is perfect to check out and recharge without feeling any guilt for doing so. It’s also time to take up a new hobby, sport or even just try new foods. Your mind and body will thank you for it!

explore

We all have restaurants we’ve been eyeing up, new stores to discover or running routes we haven’t yet tackled, and there’s no time like the present. So cast your net slightly further afield and be spontaneous. Terrifying, we know! Pack up the family or even just a backpack for yourself and set off into uncharted territory. Make sure you display your memories and keep a journal to refresh your spirit when you do go back to reality.

hassle-free

Between getting the time off work, booking flights, panicking over what to pack, dealing with the chaos of the airport; the stress of travel sometimes defeats the purpose of vacation. On a staycation, stress levels are practically non-existent, which leaves you no choice but to just relax already. Get on those silk PJ’s, and voila! Your vacation has begun.

immediacy

Sometimes when you need a break, and you need it NOW. The beauty of a staycation is that when you decide you need a break; you can take it hours later. So, set the out-of-office on and either get packing your Weekender Bag or get out the Tableware, invite friends over for a cocktail in the garden or go full recluse and just spend a week in bed.
